MP calls for violent free elections

Kofi Krom (W/R), June 11, GNA- Mr Christopher Addai, Deputy Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources and a Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai (BAB), has stressed the need for Ghanaians to ensure that the December 7 polls, was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

He noted that the people cherish the peace they are enjoying and that nothing should influence them to engage in negative tendencies, which could mar the elections.

Mr Addai was addressing the chiefs and people of Sefwi Kofi Krom in the Western Region as part of his tour of his constituency. He urged the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the National Council for Religious Bodies to team up and educate the people on the need to ensure peace before, during and after the elections. He said with the discovery of oil at Cape Three Points, it was expected that the country would see some positive changes in the economy after it has been exploited.

The Deputy Minister emphasised the importance of education in national development and asked parents to invest in their children’s education to enable become useful citizens in future. Nana Kwaku Acquah, chief of the town, appealed to the MP to use part of his Common Fund to construct a bridge across rivers Suro, Kwaakwaa and Kyira to help improve the transportation system in the area. He called on him also to support the rehabilitation of the Nnama-Kofikrom feeder road to facilitate the movement of people and foodstuffs to the marketing centres and assist the community in the procurement of an additional transformer to improve electricity supply to the town.
