Winneba police cautions public against unwarranted demonstrations

Winneba (C/R), May 21, GNA- Mr. Jordan Quaye, Winneba Municipal Police commander on Tuesday warned against unwarranted demonstrations or processions and said offenders would be arrested and prosecuted. A statement signed by Mr. Quaye, and released to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Winneba, was in reaction to information the Police Command has received that some political parties were “clandestinely rehearsing a demonstration to surprise the police.”

He said the police would stop any unapproved procession or demonstration and arrest the organisers for prosecution. Mr. Jordan Quaye said” We wish to extend utmost civility to all political parties and organizations who are planning such actions to rescind their decision or plans because the police will be left without any option, than to send leaderships of such offending political parties or Organisations to court to answer charges in accordance with the Police Order Act 491/94.”

He assured law-abiding citizens in Winneba that the police were gathering information to ensure the security and to avert chaos. In another statement, Mr Quaye cautioned that anybody or group of people who mount road block in Winneba for funeral without permission from the municipal assembly, Ghana Highways Authority or the police would be arrested and prosecuted.
