No candidate yet for Asikuma-Odeben-Brakwa – NPP Aspirant

Accra, May 14, GNA – A parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency in the Central Region has denied that the incumbent Mr P.C. Appiah Ofori had been chosen unopposed to contest the seat in December.

“I wish to state that the said declaration is unconstitutional, illegal and of no effect,” Mr John Yaw Amankrah said in a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday.

He said his investigations had revealed that 19 of the 44 people who attended the meeting at which Mr Appiah Ofori was declared unopposed were not qualified to vote in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Mr Amankrah also asked whether the meeting was convened with the knowledge of the constituency chairman as demanded by the party’s constitution.

He pledged his commitment to the NPP saying he obtained his NPP membership card before Mr Appiah Ofori joined the party.
