Kumasi, May 13, GNA- Nana Awuah Kroko, a former chief of Abuakwa near Kumasi was fined GH¢700 in addition to a compensation of GH¢2,000 by a Kumasi Circuit Court for re-selling two plots of land belonging to a businesswoman. In default, he would serve seven years in jail. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty after the trial.
Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Madam Wilhelmina Hammond that, in August 2000, Madam Elizabeth Baffour Awuah, the complainant, who is a businesswoman, purchased two plots of land from Opanin Kofi Kyekyire, family head of the Abrafohene stool at Abuakwa for a poultry farm. He said Madam Baffour Awuah visited the farm one day and noticed that the structure for the poultry farm had been pulled down and the land was being developed by another person. The prosecutor said after investigations, one Asare Bediako claimed that the land had been sold to him by the former chief. A report he said, was then made to the police and the accused was arrested.
When the case was called for judgment, on May 7 this year the accused was found guilty and charged, in addition he is to pay compensation to madam Elizabeth Baffour Awuah.
