Agona West NPP Primaries postponed

Agona Swedru, May 1, GNA- The two contestants for the Agona West Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries failed to turn up, resulting in the postponement of the event.

Some Central Regional Executives of the NPP, Central Regional Minister, Nana Atto Arthur and officials from the Electoral Commission who came to conduct and supervise the election expressed disappointment when the Regional Chairman, Mr. Danquah Smith said Mr. Adofo Dwamena, Constituency Chairman, Mr Abeiku Dickson and Mr. Ebenezer Quarshie, two contestants claimed they did not show up because they were not informed of the date and the venue for the congress.

This compelled the regional Executives of the party to postpone the congress to Friday May 2.

Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, incumbent MP, who is also Deputy Central Regional Minister is one of the contestants, while Mr Kweku Coleman, who was disqualified during the vetting attended.

Mr. Danquah Smith, in a short address said 96 polling station chairmen were expected to vote.

He said it was unfortunate that a date of the congress was communicated to constituency executives when they attended a meeting in Cape Coast and expressed surprise about their failure to attend the congress.

According to Mr Smith, the Regional Executives received the petition from the constituency executives calling for the postponement of the congress on April 29, but refused to accept that because it was too late.

He noted that the postponement of the congress to Friday was based on the intervention made by the National Chairman, Mr. Peter Mac Manu to allow peace to prevail in the constituency.

Mr. Smith warned that the Regional Executives would go ahead to conduct the congress on the new date and urged everybody, including the constituency executives and two contestants to be present.
