Kumasi, April 29, GNA – A two-week training workshop on capacity building, skills training and knowledge of Proprietors of Day Care Centres in Ashanti Region has ended in Kumasi.

The participants were educated on Laws on Children, Departmental Policy and Essence of Day Care Centres, Leadership Skills, Child Care, Business Management and First Aid. It was jointly organized by Ghana Education Service (GES) and Department of Social Welfare.

Mrs Patricia Kyeremateng Berchie, Assistant Director In-charge of Child Rights and Protection at Department of Social Welfare, addressing the closing session of the workshop, stressed the need for their centres to be registered and issued with permits which should be renewed every two years.

She said this was necessary for supervision and those performing below standards closed down.

Mrs Berchie advised them to collaborate with stakeholders to improve on the infrastructure, diet, teaching and learning materials for centres in the country to ensure children were offered the best training for proper upbringing.

She asked them to practice what they had learnt to improve upon their performance.
