Winneba(CR), April 25, GNA – The Effutu District Security Council (DISEC) has warned that any group or individual that attempts to disturb the peace in Winneba during and after the celebration of this year’s Aboakyer Festival would be arrested and prosecuted.

Mr Robert Andrews Ekow Ghanney, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of DISEC gave the warning when briefing newsmen after a meeting with leaders of the two Asafo Companies involved in the celebration of the festival at Winneba on Thursday.

He said DISEC had directed the Asafo groups to advise their members against the use of songs to insult people, unauthorized procession and making noise at night.

Mr Ghanney said such behaviour was unlawful and appealed to the people to desist from it.

He said the leaders gave the assurance that the celebration would be peaceful devoid of any disturbance.

The festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 3 when the two Asafo Companies would enter the bush to catch a live deer. The first catch to the durbar grounds is stepped on twice by the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII to signify its acceptance for rituals.

Meanwhile, Winneba Municipal Police Command has given assurance of police protection to the public to ensure peaceful celebration of the festival.

A statement issued and signed by the Municipal Police Commander, ASP Jordan Quaye, warned that “any acts of violence, vandalism, fighting and lawlessness” would not be tolerated.
