Cleaner in court for defilement

Accra, April 23, GNA – An 18 year-old cleaner who defiled a 10 year-old girl in one of the sheds at Arts Centre, Accra, was on Wednesday remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

Charles Gyebir aka C.K Takyi charged with defilement pleaded not guilty. He is to reappear on May 6.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr George Abavelim told the court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa that Daniel Kwame Dzame, the complainant, lives with the victim at the Arts Centre.

The prosecution said the victim assisted the complainant in selling iced water and Gyebir was a regular customer.

The prosecutor said early this month, the accused lured the victim into one of the sheds at the Arts Centre and had sex with her. After the act the victim failed to inform the complainant about her ordeal.

The prosecution said the complainant and other witnesses, however, detected some unusual changes in the victim and when she was quizzed she divulged the ordeal she had been through.

Gyebir was arrested and handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
