Polling station chairman threaten to vote “skirt and blouse”

Gomoa Ankamu, April 18, GNA – Two polling station chairmen in Gomoa West constituency have warned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to handle with care the election of a parliamentary candidate for the constituency if the party does not want to lose the seat.

Speaking to GNA at Gomoa Ankamu on Thursday Mr Enoch Sey of Gomoa Assin and Nebrah Tawiah of Apam said information reaching them have it that some regional and national executives of the party were making attempts to impose a candidate on the constituency.

Mr Tawiah said Mr Joe Hackman, the Member of Parliament, and Mr Fred Oscar Abban, the Presiding Member of Gomoa District Assembly, have filed papers to contest the primary. He said instead of making the two aspirants to go to the primary for one to be elected, some regional and national executives were forcing Mr Abban to step down for the incumbent to be declared unopposed.

Mr Tawiah said if the incumbent had performed creditably there would be no need for him to fear contesting primary with another aspirant. “Let their popularity be tested at the primaries”, Mr Tawiah said and added that if sitting MPs are to be declared unopposed when seeking re-election it would not make them to perform and that would thwart the efforts to elect high calibre of people to parliament.”He threatened to vote “skirt and blouse” which means that they would vote for the NPP presidential candidate and vote for another party’s parliamentary candidate if the primary was not conducted.
