Public to help promote sanitation in schools

Abuorso (E/R), April 12, GNA – Chiefs and opinion leaders have been asked to liaise with teachers to educate the public on the need to adopt good sanitation practices to ensure good health. Mr. William Dei Agyarkwa, Chairman of the Social Services Sub-Committee of the Fanteakwa District Assembly, made the call at the second speech and prize giving day of the Abuorso Roman Catholic basic Schools at Abuorso. He said the employment of sufficient sanitary personnel would be meaningless if the public refused to keep their surroundings clean. He said in the era of preventive health care people could not live healthy lifestyle under poor and unhygienic conditions. He asked the public to cultivate the habit of keeping gutters and surroundings clean to prevent the outbreak of diseases, which could have adverse effect on the academic performance of pupils.

Mr. Agyakwa asked the public to stop resorting to spiritual fortification and related occult practices to cure HIV/AIDS disease, since those practices could not be antidote to the disease. He asked the people to abstain from unprotected and casual sex so as not to contract the disease. He appealed to the National Health Insurance Scheme to adopt the batter system with people who could not afford to register or pay premiums in cash due to poverty.
