Police prevent clashes at Kpassa over failed endorsement of DCE

Kpassa, April 11, GNA – Prompt police intervention averted a bloody clash between supporters of Mr Abdulai Falumba, the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive of the newly created Nkwanta North District and those of Mr Joseph Koku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, last Wednesday at Kpassa.

The skirmishes followed failure of Mr Falumba to gain the two-thirds majority needed for his confirmation and this was blamed on Mr Nayan, the Member of Parliament for the area.

Reports said Mr Fulamba’s supporters allegedly attacked Mr Nayan’s supporters. Eyewitnesses said Mr Nayan escaped unhurt as his bodyguard came between him and a group of people who were pursuing him. James and Jelima Nayan, siblings of the Deputy Regional Minister were however admitted at the Nkwanta Government Hospital spotting injuries to the head and arm.

The eyewitnesses said the swift response of the Police enabled delegates and guests to run for cover. There was heavy police presence in the assembly during the meeting. Peace has been restored to the town.
