9 illegal miners arrested at Ntonteng

Nine (9) illegal miners have been arrested at Nkonteng near Nkawie in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region by the Nkawie Forestry Commission.

The illegal miners were arrested when they stormed the Jimira forest reserve to do mining.

The Akufo-Addo’s government and Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources banned activities of galamsey months ago.

The nine illegal miners arrested by the Nkawie Forestry Commission are Michael Gyamfi, Kwame Kwakye, Abdullai Iddrisu, Daniel Agyei, Haruna Seidu,Agyei Bernard, Kwaku Gyamfi, Afia Cynthia, Adunai.

The Nkawie District Forestry Commission Manager Nana Opoku Bosompem speaking to the media warned Ghanaians especially the youth to refrain from encroaching forest lands.

He also advised Ghanaians to stop illegal mining and respect the ban on galamsey.

He therefore appealed to Ghanaians to support government to combat illegal mining to make galamsey fight successful.

The arrested nine are currently at the Nkawie Police Station.
