80-year-old retired educationist burnt to death

Amadu Abdulai, an 80-year-old man from Kabanye in Wa was on Sunday burnt to death by fire.

The deceased, a retired worker of the Ghana Education Service who was down with stroke, was left alone in a room at about 1030 hours when the fire broke out, burnt him to death and destroyed all his personal belongings.

According to neighbours in the area, the deceased lived in the room with his son but the son was not around when the incident happened.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but residents said the old man was a cigarette smoker and that the fire could have been caused through that habit.

Mr. Cezar Kale, Caretaker Deputy Upper West Regional Minister accompanied by Alhaji Yakubu Duogu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive and the Deputy Regional Police commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofu Doku, visited the scene to assess the level of damage and also sympathise with the bereaved family.
