80% of Okwahuman South on Health Insurance Scheme

Mpraeso, Sept. 4, GNA – The Okwahuman South Mutual Health Insurance Scheme in the Kwahu South District has registered 77,930 people, representing 80 per cent of the district population. Mr Joseph Omari, the District Chief Executive, who announced this at the first session of the assembly meeting at Mpraeso, said the Scheme was able to mobilise GH¢246,320 premium.

He said the Scheme spent GH¢250,000 to pay health service providers, while GH¢23,541.29 was given as claims and commissions to its field agents.

Mr Omari said the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) released GH¢ 724,070.29 to the Scheme, which enabled it to settle all its debts to its service providers. He urged assembly members to educate people in their electoral areas to register with the Scheme.

On education, Mr Omari announced that 335 out of the 843 Basic school teachers in the district were untrained, representing 39.73 per cent, which is affecting the standard of education in the area. He gave the assurance that efforts were being made to post more trained teachers to the district.

On the school feeding programme, Mr Omari expressed worry that the district capital and other major towns had rather benefited from it to the detriment of the rural areas that the programme was meant for. He appealed to the school feeding secretariat to grant additional slots for children in the rural communities to enable them to benefit from the programme.
