Kumasi, Oct. 14, GNA – The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is working towards getting the Kumasi main Railway Station relocated from the city centre to Kaase, a suburb, to give way for the construction of an 80 million-dollar five-storey modern car park complex.
Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the project formed part of a redevelopment plan for the central business area of the metropolis.
He was interacting with members of the ‘Apagyafiem’ Gentle Club, a social club in Kumasi.
Mr Jumah said there were plans by the assembly to increase its revenue mobilisation from the present 20 billion cedis a year to about 50 billion cedis.
At the time of Mr. Jumah’s assumption of office in 2001, the KMA was collecting about three billion cedis in revenue.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive expressed concern about the congestion in the metropolis, particularly around Kejetia, Alabar, Asafo market, Railways and in front of the Central Market.
Mr Awuah Brobbey, Chairman of the Club, noted with satisfaction that Kumasi was beginning to see real signs of changes as evidenced from the street illumination and improvement of the road network.
