Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko says his side is approaching Sunday’s clash with Asante Kotoko with confidence but caution, despite riding an impressive eight-match unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League.
Only two points separate the sides on the league table, Medeama sit third on 22 points, while Kotoko follow closely in fourth with 20 setting up a finely poised encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Tanko, whose team last tasted defeat on 28 September against Karela United, believes their recent form offers momentum but not certainty.
“We are eight games unbeaten now, but I know against Kotoko it is going to be a different game altogether,” he said ahead of the match.
“Definitely, we will get our chances and I hope the strikers will be more clinical this time and score the goals. I think it is going to be a very good game because both clubs have very good teams.”
Medeama’s resurgence has seen them record four wins and four draws since their last loss, tightening their grip on the top end of the table.
Kotoko, meanwhile, enter the fixture on the back foot after suffering their first defeat of the season, a 2–1 loss to Holy Stars last weekend. Their preparations have been far from ideal, but they will draw confidence from their strong recent home record against Medeama, having won their last two meetings at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The match, one of the standout fixtures of the weekend, is scheduled to kick off at 4pm on Sunday, with both sides keen to cement their place among the league’s early front-runners.
