NAIMOS Strikes Again: Major Successes in Western North and Ashanti Regions
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has disclosed significant wins in its ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.
In a statement published on Thursday 23rd October 2025 by the Minister in change of Government Communications, in a two coordinated operations on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the NAIMOS Task Force targeted illegal mining hotspots in the Western North and Ashanti Regions.
Western North Region Operations
In the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve, Aowin District, the NAIMOS Task Force intercepted a group of armed men operating deep within the forest.
The team arrested several suspects, including a Chinese national believed to be their excavator operator. A search of the area led to the seizure of four pump-action guns, 22 cartridges, and three buckets containing suspected mining material.
The task force later advanced to the Boin River Forest Reserve in the Enchi District, where they continued their operations against illegal mining.
Ashanti Region Operations
In the Ashanti Region, the NAIMOS Task Force targeted hotspots in the Asante Akim and Juaso districts. Acting on credible intelligence, the task force discovered six excavators in the Asuboa Mponua area of Asante Akim. Two were unserviceable, while the remaining four were immobilized.
The team seized and destroyed several items, including:
– One heavy-duty water pumping machine
– Numerous hoses
– Empty fuel containers
– A wooden structure (set ablaze)
– One generator set (seized)
The task force according to the statement further proceeded to the Praakwa Forest Reserve in the Juaso District, where illegal mining was taking place along the Pra River.
The operation led to the destruction six mining boats, several washing platforms and other equipments that were all set ablaze.
Meanwhile, about eight illegal miners were arrested including a Chinese national during the operation.
