72-year old man defiles 9-year-old girl

Bawku, Sept 16, GNA – Mr Williams Boampong, Circuit Court Judge of Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region, has remanded a 72 year old man in prison custody for defiling a nine year old girl. Prosecutor Ayitigah Raphael told the court that the accused and the victim lived in the Zongo Community in Bawku.

He said on the 9th of August 2009, at about 1400 hours, the victim was on her way home from town when the accused called her which she obliged. The accused then entered his room and invited the victim and as soon as she entered the room, he threw her on the bed and covered her mouth with his hands.

Prosecutor said the accused then forcible had sex with the victim after which he gave her Gh¢ 1.00 and another Gh¢ 1.00 to buy him a razor blade.

When the victim’s mother saw her with the razor blade, she enquired from her how she came by the money and she disclosed her ordeal to her mother.

The victim told her mother that the accused warned her not to tell anybody, else she would die.

The mother then took her to the house of the accused but did not meet him.

She reported the case to the Police and a Medical Form was issued to the victim to attend hospital and the result proved that she had been defiled.

The accused is to reappear on 27 September, 2009.
