69th Synod of Global Evangelical Church opens

Accra, Aug. 5, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills, on Thursday called on the Church to sustain its moral campaign to save the country from moral decadence.

He asked pastors, religious leaders and Christians to be virtuous, stressing that Christians should work hard to redeem the image of the church.

Addressing the opening session of the 69th Synod of Global

Evangelical Church in Accra, President Mills said Christians needed to lead lives “so that you shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father, who is in heaven.”

The six-day synod being attended by about 650 delegates from both local and international branches of the Church was on the theme: “That None Should Perish”.

President Mills expressed worry over the lifestyles of some pastors and priests which did not conform to the teachings of Jesus Christ and asked such leaders to lead exemplary lifestyles.

He said government would continue to count on the support and prayers of the church as it strived to make lives better for Ghanaians.

Right Reverend Dr Emmanuel Kwamla Gbordzoe, Moderator of the Church, gave the assurance that the Church would continue to prevent people from perishing by constantly teaching God’s Commandments that required Christians to live holy lives.

“When we do this we would experience a new Ghana and a new earth,

in anticipation of a new heaven, even as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,” he added.

Rt-Rev. Dr Gbordzoe condemned attempts by some people to promote

homosexuality in Ghana and asked government not to yield to any external and internal pressure to promote human rights that were foreign and inimical to the moral and spiritual health of the country.

He urged government to be unrelenting in the drive to instil discipline in the management of State resources including the environment, adding that greed that led to corruption in the Ghanaian society should end.

Rt-Rev. Dr Gbordzoe asked the media to desist from unbridled display of
