66-year-old man goes to jail for possessing narcotic drug

Mpraeso (E/R), Jan. 11, GNA – The Mpraeso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Kwabena Assuman-Adu has sentenced a 66-year-old man to 10 years imprisonment for possessing 48 grammes of Indian hemp without authority.

Kwaku Attah pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal procession of narcotic drugs.

The Prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Alex Gyamera Acheampong told the court that police from Mpraeso searched a house at Nkwatia and seized nine rappers and eight parcels of the stuff from the convict’s room.

Atta told the police that he used to deal in narcotic drugs but had stopped and those found in his room were for his personal use. Passing sentence, Mr Asumadu said he took into consideration the age and plea by the accused for leniency.
