65 Adult Literacy facilitators awarded

Saltpond (C/R), Jan 21, GNA – Sixty-five (65) facilitators of the Non-formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ghana Education Service, in the Mfantseman District, have been awarded for their dedication to duty. The facilitators, who have since 2000 to 2002 trained 1,290 to acquire basic literacy skills in reading, writing and numeracy were provided with roofing sheets, sewing machines and pieces of wax prints.

Mr Joseph Enningful, Central Regional Coordinator of the NFED used the occasion to appeal to the public to erase the impression that the Division was an affiliate of a particular political party. He said through the functional literacy programme of the NFED, the adult learners have been taught how to access and utilise micro-credit facilities to improve upon their standards of living. Mr Enningful said the course content had been expanded to cover English language.

Mr Anthony Adjei Kusi, Presiding Member of the District Assembly, urged the facilitators to educate the people on the importance of honouring their tax obligations.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, acting District Chief Executive, who chaired the function, advised the facilitators to promote personal and environmental hygiene.

They should also educate the people on the relevance of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the need for them to embrace it. Mr Isaac Kweku Ansah, District Coordinator advised the learners to engage themselves in community empowerment and developmental activities and improve on their occupational skills.
