Akyem Asuboa, (E/R) Nov. 19, GNA – A-60 million-cedis mechanized bole hole for the people of Akyem Asuboa in the Birim South District was inaugurated on Friday.
The World Health Organization (WHO), Ghana supported the project with 50 million cedis, while the community provided the remaining amount.
In his inaugural address, the District Chief Executive, Mr. Frank Kwame Bosomtwi commended the WHO for its support and appealed to it to extend the gesture to other deprived communities in the district. He announced that the District Assembly was putting in place the necessary structures to provide a more permanent and uninterrupted water supply system for the community.
The Adontenhene of the town, Nana Gyeke Apau appealed for additional funds from WHO towards the continuation of the remaining phase of the project as well as the construction of a 20-unit septic tank sanitary facility for the community.
He appealed that monies realized from the sale of the water should be used purposely for the operation and maintenance of the project to help sustain it.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr Kobena Kwakye Agyemang urged the people to regard the project as theirs and to do everything possible to ensure its sustainability.
