A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded in police custody six persons – including a lady –for assault and robbery.

The six – Emmanuel Ampaabeng, Kofi Gyimah, Kofi Ntiri, Kwadwo Owusu, Richard Kwabena Kyere, and Kate Appiah – according to Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Tei Akunnor, a fortnight ago, armed with guns, attacked the Petroland fuel station at Nkoransa-Kumasi, assaulted staff before making away with GHS11,200 and a car battery.

The gang subsequently raided a supermarket at Asenua in the Afigya Kwabre district, also in the Ashanti Region, after beating one Mohammed Halidu, the security man, until he became unconscious.

However, a joint operation between the Asokwa Police and the Police Counter-Terrorism Unit led to the arrest of the accused persons. A search of the two vehicles they were driving uncovered dangerous implements.

All accused persons pleaded not guilty to charges of robbery and causing harm. Presiding judge Mary Nsenkyire remanded them in custody to reappear on Tuesday September 20.
