52 Men Undergo Vasectomy

About fifty-two men nationwide have subjected themselves to ?No Scalpal Vasectomies (NSV)? since the revamping of the exercise in the country last year as a method of contraception for men.

Twenty-six were done last year while the remaining 26 were performed in the first quarter of this year, showing an improvement in the exercise. The no scalpel vasectomy, otherwise known as ?no cut, no stitch, no pain exercise?, is a simple medical procedure, which prevents men from releasing sperms during sexual intercourse.

Ms Patience Darko, programme officer of Engender Health, a non-governmental organization that is collaborating with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to embark on a sensitization exercise for vasectomy made this known at the launch of a vasectomy programme at KATH.

The launching of the programme at KATH formed part of efforts to help revamp vasectomy as a method of contraception for males who have completed making families. Dr. Robert K. Sagoe, a gynecologist at KATH?s Family Planning Unit said at the launching ceremony that 12 no scalpel vasectomies have since been performed at KATH since the introduction of the revamping exercise.
