52 Ghanaians arrive home from Cote d’Ivoire

Sekondi (W/R), April 16, GNA 97 A total of 52 Ghanaians arrived at the Bosomtwi- Sam Fishing Harbour, at Sekondi, on Friday from San Pedro in Cote d’Ivoire.

Among the returnees, who arrived through canoes, included a 15-year old pregnant girl and an 80-year old man. The returnees aged between one to 80 years were welcomed home by the Sekondi-Takoradi National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, Nana Billson and officials of the Immigration Service. Nana Billson assured them that the government would assist them with transportation to enable them to travel to their various communities.

He also pledged the government’s support to help them re-unite with their families and integrate into their communities. One of the returnees, Sampson Cudjoe noted that, despite the capture of the former president Laurent Gbabo, there is no peace in Cote d’Ivoire.

“In fact, we don’t get food to eat while some militias continue attacking us”, he said

He said they left the shores of Cote d’Ivoire about three days ago in a canoe with other returnees, but due to shortage of fuel, some of the canoes are still on the high seas and appealed to the authorities concerned to help those stranded with fuel to enable them to berth safely.
