50-year old man remanded over ‘degrading treatment’

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has remanded a 50-year old man in prison custody for not protecting a child from torture and degrading treatment.

Solomon Kwabena a farmer and drinking bar operator, and a native of Gomoa Panfokrom in Central Region, plea was not taken and will re-appear on June 9.

Prosecution Police Detective Sergeant Peter Agbelie told the Court Presided over by Mr Charles Owusu Nssiah that the complainant is a 17 years old apprentice, whose name is withheld.

The prosecution said at about 2200 hours on May 21 the complainant had stomach ache and he decided to ease himself, he therefore took a polythene bag and rushed to an uncompleted building near the accused person’s drinking bar and eased himself.

Detective Sgt Agbelie said the accused person spotted him and subjected him to beatings and forced him to carry the polythene bag containing the toilet to throw it away.

The prosecution said, the complainant reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of Ghana Police Service in Winneba where a medical form was issued to him to attend hospital for examination and treatment.
