5 arrested over illegal possession of Indian hemp

Five people have been arrested in the Northern Region for illegal possession of Indian hemp.

The suspects were picked up by the police in two separate operations in the Tamale metropolis.

Joy News’ Northern regional correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed reported that the five suspects, Wahabu Shafawu, Zakaria Zaida, Kofi Fuseini, Mananu Ziblim and Mohammed Inusah, were arrested at various hide outs.

Some of the hideouts the police raided included, Tishigu, Aboabo Forest, Kuli-Kuli Park, and Tamale High Court forest.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer told Joy News that the exercise was “part of an ongoing exercise to try and rid some of the criminal hideouts and “wee” smoking areas in the Tamale metropolis and other areas like Savelugu.”

The suspects, he added, are currently in police custody pending investigations.
