5 Armed Men Rob Salvation Army Boss

Nkawkaw (eastern region) — FIVE ARMED robbers in the early hours of Sunday, November 3, this yerar, attacked the residence of the Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Church at Nkawkaw, Major James Oduro, and brutally assaulted him, the wife and the occupants in the house at Akuadjoo, a suburb of Nkawkaw.
Police source told Chronicle that the robbers numbering five with locally manufactured pistols besieged the residence while the commander and his family were asleep.
The robbers forced the doors leading to the room open, brutally assaulted the family and took away items such as video deck, tape recorder, three brief cases containing four Ghanaian passports belonging to the Commander and Mrs. Oduro and other family members which some have America Visas in them, a quantity of Salvation Army Church accoutrements, personal effects and cash running into several millions of cedis.
The police source said whilst two of the robbers were ransacking the rooms, the other three subjected the family, especially Mrs. Oduro, to severe beatings with sticks and other dangerous implements.
According to the source, Mrs. Oduro managed to identify one of the robbers as the driver of a Tico taxi cab she hired on Saturday night (November 2, 2002) from the Nkawkaw main Accra station when she returned from her Accra trip to her house.
The police have managed to arrest the taxi driver and two other suspects (names withheld) for questioning.
The three brief cases, together with the passports and some certificates belonging to the couple, were found abandoned in the bush near Trado, a suburb of Nkawkaw.
In recent times, robbers have been attacking pastors in the Kwahu area. The first one was the expatriate Rev. Father of Kwahu Tafo Roman Catholic Church, then followed the attack at the residence of Apostle Ofosu and family at Nkawkaw.
The head Pastor of the New Church at Kwahu Asakraka and family were also attacked and robbed.
In all instances, the victims were brutally assaulted and their property and monies taken away.
