46 pick forms to contest NPP national executive elections

By the close of nominations on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, 46 aspirants have picked forms at the Head Office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest for positions in the national executive elections scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

The aspirants are required to get endorsement from ten party members across the country as part of the process to have the nomination forms approved, according to party’s constitution.

These were made known on TV3 by Perry Okudzeto, the Acting Communications Director of the NPP.

He said submission of forms are scheduled for February 7 – 10, 2014 after which vetting will be conducted for qualified aspirants on February 12 – 13, 2014.

Those aspiring for the chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions are required to file their nominations at Ghc3,000 while all other positions will be filed at Ghc2,000.

Only ten will be elected to fill national executive positions.

As of the close of nominations, incumbent chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Paul Afoko, Stephen Ntim, incumbent 1st vice chairman Fred Oware and Professor Mike Ocquaye picked forms to contest the chairmanship position.

Freddie Blay, Sammy Crabbe, Fred Amankwa Sarfo, Kenwood Nuworsu, FF Antoh, Hajia Fati Amadu, Sheikh TB Damba, Michael Omari Wadie are among aspirants going for the first, second and third vice-chairmanship positions.

Incumbent General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John, faces competition from Kwabena Agyapong, Nkrabea Effah Darteh and Yaw Buaben Asamoa, who have picked forms to challenge Sir John.

For the National Organiser position, Alhaji Moctar Bamba faces competition from Hopeson Adorye, John Boadu and Mahama Mahammoud.

Sammy Awuku, Charles Adu Gyamfi, Michael Kwabena Ampong and Gifty Oware among others are challenging Emmanuel Attefuah-Danso for the Youth Organiser position.

While Mawusi Awity and Tina Mensah will contest for the Women’s Organiser post, Sussie Mensah, Esther Ofori, Kwabena Yeboah and Hajia Sauda Ruka will contest incumbent Otiko Djaba for the position of Treasurer.

Eight people will contest for the Nasara Coordinator.

The NPP national executive elections are part of a re-organisation process of the party towards the 2016 general elections.

Already, polling, constituency and regional elections have been held across the country.
