44 babies born on New Year Day in Kumasi

Forty-Four (48) babies were born in five government health facilities in the Kumasi Metropolis on New Year Day.

They are made up of 29 females and 19 males.

Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), a referral facility, recorded the highest number of births – 30 deliveries, 10 of which were done through caesarean section.

Mr Atta Tweneboah Junior, Business Manager, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the babies and their mothers were doing well.

Many of them had already been discharged.

At the Kumasi South Hospital, there were seven deliveries out of which five were females. Ms Gladys Asantewaah, the Midwife, said they all have a clean bill of health.

The five babies born at the Tafo Government Hospital and their mothers were also in good health and according to the Senior Midwife, Mrs Cecelia Nwinsoru, said they came through normal delivery.

At the KNUST Hospital, where there were two new births, a male and a female, they and their parents had gone home at the time the GNA visited.

Mrs Bernice Dzidzornu, the Senior Nursing Officer, said they were in healthy condition. All four babies at the Suntreso Government Hospital together with their mothers were fine.

Mrs Rita Mackenzie, the Senior Staff Midwife, called for pregnant women to attend antenatal clinic regularly to avoid complications during delivery.
