43 schools in Hohoe District without classrooms

Hohoe, May 12, GNA- A total of 43 primary and junior secondary schools in the Hohoe District, are without classrooms, a survey conducted by the District Directorate of Education has indicated. As a result 35 of the affected schools conduct lessons under sheds, five of them in dilapidated swish structures, while three others take shelter under trees.

The Directorate has therefore appealed to both governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) to come to the aid of the affected schools in order to improve on academic standards.

Mr James Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive said the District Assembly with its limited resources and support from development partners had made enormous strides in improving school infrastructure. He said within the past four years, 28 new school structures including six and three-unit classroom blocks had been completed with funds from the District Assembly, European Union, HIPC and some NGOs. Mr Dogbe said five six-unit classroom blocks were also under construction at Gbi-Central R.C School, Likpe-Mate, Leklebi-Fiafe, Leklebi-Duga and Logba.

He said the District Assembly had also provided funds to enclose classroom pavilions at Akpafu-Mepeasem, Fodome and Akpafu-Odomi. He said two four-unit teachers quarters each were also built at Likpe-Todome and Leklebi Secondary Schools.
