A total of about 4,000 communities nationwide have been connected to the national electricity grid within the last three and a-half years, President John Dramani Mahama, has announced.
Alongside this, has been the construction of health facilities, schools infrastructure, roads and potable water.
President Mahama was inaugurating a new assembly block and information and communication technology (ICT) centre built for the Akyemansa District Assembly at Ofoase.
He was in the area as part of his three-day ‘accounting to the people tour’ of the Eastern Region.
He spoke of the decision to provide office and residential accommodation for 47 new districts many of them were created without provision for these vital infrastructure.
President Mahama assured the people in the area that every effort would be made to complete a water project started – to supply them with clean and safe drinking water.
In line with the government’s policy of building a hospital in every district to improve access to quality health care, he said Akyemansa was going to have a district hospital.
He again promised the extension of the New Abirim- Ofoase road and asphalting of the Akim-Oda-Ofoase-Abirem-Nkawkaw road, if given a second term by voters in the coming election.
Nana Bosompem Akoto, the chief of Ofoase, said they were grateful to the government for the numerous development projects.
President Mahama later inspected on-going road projects in the area and addressed a durbar of chiefs at New Abirim, where the chief Nana Kwesi Amo Kyerekye appealed for early completion of a College of Education project.
