40 Bicycles Donated to Ghana Police

The United State government has donated 40 bicycles to the Ghana Police Service. The caravan, which was organized by the Institute for Transportation and Development, was to encourage the use of bicycles in Accra. The bicycles are to help the police petrol team do their work probably and also strengthen law enforcements techniques and assist victims of crime.

Addressing the ceremony, Ms Michelle Lee, the political officer of the Embassy of the United States stated that successful democratization required a basic level of security and trust by the citizens.

She further said her government would continue to assist the Ghana Police Service in order to lift the souls of the police to work hard.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Interior, Edwin Barn advised drivers not to look down on bicycle riders, but co-operate with them “I see cicyclists as very important, so should everybody”said the chief director.

He said very soon, government would take bicycle riding to the highest level in the country. In all, 366 male and six females participated in the race.

Mr Sarfo Kwenteng who read the speech on behalf of the Inspector General of Police thanked the department’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and the U.S Department of Justice’s International Criminal Investigational Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) for their commitment to the Ghana police and promised that the cycles would be used probably.
