38 communities in Sissala West District to enjoy electricity

Gwollu, (U/W), Sept. 28, GNA – Thirty-eight (38) communities in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region will be connected to the National Electricity Grid through the Rural Electrification Project.

Mr Robert Bakah Wavei, Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE) announced this at the Assembly’s second ordinary meeting at Gwollu, the district capital.

He said the Chinese contractor who is to execute the project had visited the District for works to kick-start.

Touching on the finances of the Assembly Mr Wavei said the District received a total of GH¢180,847.94 as its share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund for the first quarter of 2011.

He said the Assembly recorded GH¢72,913.91 as internally generated funds as at the end of August, representing 59 per cent of the targeted amount of GH¢123,650.00.

Mr Wavei listed poor response to Sub-committees’ meetings, delay in completion of projects and weak internally generated funds with very little support from Assembly members as some of the major challenges facing the Assembly.

Alhaji Issahaku Saliah, Regional Minister called on the Assembly to ensure that the Area Councils and Unit Committees are well resourced and motivated to enable them bring out their best.

He urged the Assembly to pay attention to issues such as birth and death registration, rateable items and revenue mobilisation in order to bring about the holistic development of the District.

Alhaji Saliah said many businesses are springing up in the district and called for the registration of all small scale businesses to ensure an effective revenue mobilisation derive.
