35-year old remanded for abduction and defilement

Kumasi, July 12, GNA – A 35-year-old man, who allegedly abducted a 14-year old girl and for five days running sexually abused her has been remanded by a Kumasi Circuit Courte held in prison remand. The plea of Emmanuel Amoateng was not taken and he would re-appear on July 15.

This is to allow the police space to arrest his accomplice, one Abiola, in whose room the said crime was committed. Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah-Apenteng told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that the victim lives with the parents at Buokrom in Kumasi, the very place where Amoateng also plies his aluminum fabrication trade.

On June 27 the parents reported to the police that their daughter was missing and for five days there was no trace of her. The prosecution said when she finally returned to the house on July 3, she narrated how the accused lured and kept her in the room of Abiola, where he sexually assaulted her. A report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) and Amoateng was arrested. Police Chief Inspector Mensah-Apenteng said medical report by doctors who treated the victim confirmed that she had been defiled.
