35 trapped illegal miners feared dead

Some 35 illegal miners have been trapped in a mine pit at Bonsawire near Asuoso in the Western Region.

The incident which occurred 4:30 am on Monday morning, has brought activities at the mine site to a standstill.

Sources say two persons have so far been rescued by the local folks with 33 others still trapped in the mine pit located in the forest of Bonsawire.

Of the two, one is dead and the other seriously injured, our sources said.

Our sources say the chances of survival of the remaining trapped illegal miners are minimal looking at the nature of the incident.

About three hundred, our sources say, were working on the site at the time of the incident.

The Police are yet to report to the scene.
