35 Sunyani Private Schools to be Closed Down!

Bishop Williwise E. K. Kusi, the Sunyani Municipal Director of Education has told Space FM that over 35 private schools in the municipality would soon be closed down for failing to comply with GES directives.

The affected schools are either operating without the knowledge of GES, or have no License to operate and are not being monitored nor supervised by GES.

Bishop Kusi declined to mention the names of the affected schools but said the directorate has instructed a school at Abesim near Sunyani not to operate from next academic year because it has not met the primary requirements.

?There are some basic requirements every school has to meet before it gets approval from the GES to operate?, he noted.

Some of the requirements include, at least three classroom blocks, two offices, a store room, reasonable number of text books and qualified teachers urinal and toilets facilities, playing ground, first aid boxes, among others.

He observed that some institutions submit applications but do not wait for approval before they commence operation.

?There are some schools operating in the municipality for the past three years without approval from the GES?, he pointed out. The municipal director said a task force has been formed to identify all schools operating illegally and bring them to book.
