347 Killed In Road Accidents In 3 Months

A total of 347 people died through road accidents between April and June this year, the National Road Safety Commission has announced. The figure, as compared to last year?s of 385, represents a reduction in deaths within the same period.

Noble Appiah, executive director of the commission, disclosed this in Accra at a media briefing on statistics of road accidents which occurred during the second quarter of this year.

The statistics indicate that Ashanti, Eastern, Greater Accra, Central and Tema accounted for about 80 per cent of fatalities for the period.

?This is followed in descending order by Brong Ahafo, Volta, Western, Upper East, Northern and Upper West regions,? he said,

Comparing the country-wide figures to that of last year, Mr Appiah stated that the figures for this year showed an improvement, adding that 293 fatal accidents occurred this year, compared to last year?s 309.

On minor accidents, he said this year?s number is 2,043 as against last year 2,315, adding that the number of persons injured is 2,358 as compared to last year?s 2,704.
