31st DWM Road Transport Union to Be Sued

The Jasikan District Assembly has threatened to take legal action against two organisations and a contractor for cheating the assembly of millions of cedis.

The organisations are the 31st December Women’s Movement, Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Adopted Twins Construction Enterprise, a private construction company.

Mr Sam Baidu Kelele, the District Chief Executive announced this at the last assembly meeting at Jasikan on Thursday.

He said the assembly was made to pay 107 million cedis to establish a community centre for women, but the 31st December Women’s Movement prepared an indenture in its name and hijacked the centre.

The GPRTU at Jasikan also hijacked the local Lorry Park under false pretences claiming that the union had acquired the land on which the park was built.

He said the union has also collected tolls from drivers running into millions of cedis.

Adopted Twins Construction Works undertook the construction of a 79 million cedi market shed but could not hand it over to the assembly because the structures collapsed shortly after construction.

Mr Kelele said the assembly had contacted legal experts for advice.

The DCE was not happy about the collection of traditional revenue during the four year tenure of the assembly, and said the inability to generate enough revenue for its planned programmes showed that members of the assembly could not educate members of their communities to appreciate the need to pay taxes willingly.
