31st DWM: Assault On Ursula Is An Affront To Women

The President of the 31st December Women’s Movement and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has condemned in no uncertain terms, what she describes as the “atrocious” attack on Madam Ursula Owusu, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma South and Samuel Abdulai Jinapor at Kantamanto on Wednesday the 11th of April 2012.

The two were subjected to some severe physical assault during a tour of some registration centres in the Odododiodio Constituency by some heavily built assailants.

The incident was said to have occurred at a registration centre known as Tarzan in the constituency.

The President of the broad based development oriented Non-Governmental Organisation, that aspires to see the emancipation of women at every level of development to enable them contribute and benefit from the socio-economic and political progress of the country, said this in a statement issued on her behalf and that of Executives of the NGO.

“We believe this act of violence meted out to Madam Owusu and others is an affront to women in general and against the constitutional rights of all Ghanaians,” the statement signed by Sylvia Ahorlu, General Secretary of the NGO said.
