31st December women’s movement donates to flood victims in the north.

Tamale (N/R), Sept. 25, GNA – The 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM) on Saturday donated assorted relief items worth 22.5 million cedis to flood victims in the three northern regions.

The items comprised 100 bags of maize, 100 bags of rice, 100 cartons of cooking oil, 20 bales of used clothing and soap. Mrs Ruby Dagadu, deputy general secretary of the movement presented the items to Mr Sam Nasamu Asabigi, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Hajia Fati Seidu, deputy Upper East Regional Minister and Mrs Alice Boon, Member of Parliament for Jirapa-Lambussie Mrs Dagadu hoped that the items would be fairly distributed to the victims.

Mrs Irene Steele-Dadzie, co-ordinator of the movement in charge of the three regions said the DWM “is part of a peace initiative desk established by first ladies in Africa to go to the aid of victims of natural and man made disasters.”

Mr Asabigi noted that DWM is one of the NGOs that have so far intervened in the rehabilitation of the victims in such a big way. Mrs Boon hoped that the National Disaster Management Organisation would ensure an equitable distribution of the items.
