31st December Market To Revert To Makola

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and Accra Metropolitan Assembly are considering a proposal to revert the 31 st December Market in Ghana’s capital, Accra to its original name – “Makola” and the Rawlings Park as “Makola Square”.

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe told the Makola Women’s wing of the party that these changes have become necessary for the sake of posterity. Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said when the Regional Coordinating Council and AMA implement the proposals it would complete the full cycle of having Makola Market, Makola Square and Makola Shopping Mall.

The market, which has been known as Makola for years, was changed to 31st December Market by the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and adopted by the former first Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as part of her 31st December Movement.
