Asikuma(E/R), April 27, GNA – Over 300 young people had been registered by the Asuogyaman District Assembly to engage in farming this season with support from the District Assembly and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Mr Johnson Ehiakpor, Asuogyaman District Chief Executive, disclosed this on Monday when he and some officials of the assembly visited the 160 acre farm belonging to the Farmers Youth League, a youth farmers group being supported by the assembly at Fintey-Dorfor and Asikuma.
Mr Ehiakpor explained that the assembly budgeted to engage some youth in agriculture for the year before the announcement of the national programme resulting in the high numbers of youth in the project. He disclosed that, already the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) had provided 20 bags of seed maize to support the Youth in Agriculture Programme and that had been planted on 100 acres of land in the district. Mr Ehiapkor said the assembly would buy more seed maize to be cultivated to support the national grains production project and to provide employment to the youth. The DCE and his team later visited a seven acre irrigated vegetable farm at Frankadua under the Youth in Agriculture Programme and some farming groups in South Senkyi, Labolabo, Jekiti and Sedorm. 27 April 10
