30 Years for Armed Robbery

A Ho High Court, presided over by Mr. Justice Richard K. Apaloo, has sentenced a 20-year-old unemployed, Avesu Alowoe, to 30 years’ imprisonment for armed robbery.

Avesu pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob and robbing Mr. Kwakuvi Kuam of his Yamaha motorbike.

Two others, Fofo Zotu and Kodjo Adzahoe who pleaded not guilty to the same offence were remanded and will re-appear on June 3. The fourth person is on the run.

Mr. Elias Gli, a State Attorney, told the court that on November 2, 1999, the accused persons shot Mr. Kuam who was returning from Pokuime at Aflao in the Volta Region in the right hand with a locally manufactured pistol and took away his motorbike.

He said Avesu and Zotu were arrested on November 16, 1999 when the issue of how to dispose of the motorbike turned into a quarrel between them.
