30 hand pump caretakers receive training

Hand pump caretakers and area mechanics in the Wassa East District have undergone a two-day training workshop on how to repair mechanised boreholes.

The training would equip them to undertake minor and major technical repair works on boreholes in the district to ensure constant supply of water.

The workshop, which was organised by the Water and Sanitation team of the Area Development Programme of World Vision-Ghana and Community Development, at Atobiase in Wassa East, was attended by 30 participants from 15 communities in the district.

Mr James Asmah, District Community Development Officer, said the district can only boast of only one area mechanic, who was often burdened with work.

He appealed to other NGOs and benevolent organisations to assist the Department to extend the training to other communities in the district.

The resource person for the training, Mr Evans Emmanuel Aidoo, who was a former water supply engineer for Community Water and Sanitation, took participants through theoretical and practical training.
