3 Killed At Ako Adjei Interchange

AT LEAST three persons were reported dead and several others injured, when four vehicles got involved in a multiple accident near the Canadian High Commission in Accra, yesterday morning around 6.50am.

The dead have been identified as 26-year-old Josephine Tetteh together with her three-year-old daughter and Benjamin Boadu, a taxi driver.

The injured persons were however sent to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.

Narrating the accident to DAILY GUIDE, commander in charge of the Ministries Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), ASP Florence Owusu said the road mishap happened around 6:50am at the Independence Avenue near the Canadian High Commission, off the Ako Adjei Interchange.

The vehicles involved were a Nissan Frontier with registration number GT 4067Z, belonging to a bank, a Benz Sprinter with registration number GR 6393-09 heading towards Accra on the 37 Military Hospital road, a Nissan Micra with registration number GS 3125–11 and a Hyundai H200 vehicle with registration number GN 33 92-10, both heading towards the 37 Military Hospital from Accra.

The Nissan Frontier was allegedly driving at top speed and in an attempt to overtake the Benz bus in front, ran into it.

The driver immediately lost control of the steering wheel and skidded off into the other lane, smashing into the Nissan Micra taxi cab and the Hyundai H200 bus.

Occupants of the Nissan Micra taxi cab comprising a woman, her daughter and the driver, died instantly, while driver of the Hyundai H200 sustained grave injuries.

Driver of the Nissan Frontier, who allegedly caused the accident, also sustained injures together with the driver and mate of the Benz bus.

The MTTU boss said the impact of the crash was so great that both the Nissan Micra and the Nissan pick-up were damaged beyond repairs.

Information gathered indicated that the deceased, Josephine Tetteh was sending her three-year-old daughter to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment when they met their untimely death.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle belonging to the bank has been arrested by the police to help in their investigations, DAILY GUIDE learnt.
