3 dead Ghanaian pilgrims to be buried in Mecca today

Three out of the five Ghanaian pilgrims who have been confirmed dead in the ongoing Hajj in the Saudi Arabian capital, Mecca, are to be buried in the Holy Land (Mecca) today.

The other two are expected to be laid to rest tomorrow.

The Hajj Board has clarified that the deaths are unrelated to a stampede that left over 700 pilgrims’ dead.

The bodies of the deceased are currently at the morgue in Mina.

Public Relations Officer of the Hajj Board Mohammed Amin Lamptey who disclosed the burial to Kasapa 102.3 FM while speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa Tuesday stated that planned interment of the deceased is in accordance with Islamic customs.

“They will be buried here in Mecca, Islamically wherever a person dies; he/she must be buried there unless in cases where the bereaved families insist that their relative must be brought to them.

When it happens like this the deceased person’s family is informed, in most cases people who die during Hajj have some of their relatives present with them, so such persons are immediately notified of the death or better still we call home in Ghana to brief the family before we officially announce publicly”.
