3 Arrested for ‘Jubilee field’ fraud

The police have arrested three men who attempted to defraud an individual of hundreds of dollars.

One of the suspects, Kwamena Sintim Misah, 43, who claimed to work with the Jubilee oil fields as an engineer, called the complainant last Tuesday, September 25, and introduced himself as Amoah.

According to Chief Superintendent Dennis Abade, director of Vetting and Criminal Analysis (VCA) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Kwamena told the complainant that there was a leakage on the oil field so the company urgently needed an oil pipe sealant to stop the leakage.

Kwamena told the complainant that the product sells at $700 and proposed one Asare Bediako as the main supplier of the sealant.

Kwamena added that Bediako would supply the sealant at $500 per box so they could make a profit of $200 from each box.

Chief Supt. Abade said the complainant got in touch with Bediako, who confirmed Kwamena’s story.

The complainant, who became suspicious because of the duping of a cousin through similar means, feigned interest in the deal and contacted the police.

On Thursday, September 27, the complainant scheduled a meeting with the suspects at a hotel in Accra, apparently for Bediako to collect the $1,000 to supply a sample of the product.

Kwamena, Bediako (who turned out to be a Joseph Mensah) and one Edward Koffie, 60, an electrician, were all arrested by the police. They admitted to the crime and are currently in police custody.
