Koforidua, April 24, GNA – Some 2,930 candidates from both public and private junior secondary schools began taking part in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the New Juaben Municipality on Monday.
The candidates were made up of 2,389 candidates from 49 public schools and 541 candidates from 13 private schools are sitting the examinations at eight centres.
All the examination centres the GNA visited recorded a number of absentee candidates.
At the Koforidua Secondary Technical School Centre, four girls were absent out of the 1,044 candidates, at Koforidua Secondary School, two girls and two boys were absent out of the 368 candidates and at Ghana Secondary School, four girls were also absent out of 432 candidates. At the SDA School Centre a boy and 5 girls were absent out of 353 candidates and at the Jumapo Methodist School, one girl was absent out of 258.
The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Adjei Boateng who was accompanied by the Regional Co-ordinator of the BECE, Mr Samuel Djaba-Mensah and the Municipal Coordinator, Mrs Charlotte Asante, said he was happy with the smooth take-off of the examination. He expressed the hope that the candidates would remain focused till the end of the examination on Friday.
