27-Member Effutu assembly inaugurated in Winneba

Winneba (C/R), March 15, GNA 97 Mr Eldad Bonney, Director at the Guidance and Counselling Department of the University of Education, was by a unanimous decision, elected as the Presiding Member of the 27-Effutu Municipal Assembly, after its inauguration in Winneba. This was after Mr Afenyo Mikin, Assembly Member for Kojo Bedu electoral Area and immediate past Presiding member of the Assembly had withdrawn from the race.

The Assembly is made up of 18 elected members, eight government appointees and the Municipal chief Executive.

The Assembly also formed eight sub-committees, which will deliberate on matters and development projects before coming to the general Assembly for approval and implementation. Dr Ato Essuman, Central Region Representative of the Council of State read the President’s inaugural address, which explained section 16 (1) of the Local government Act 1993, Act 462. According to the Act, an Assembly member shall maintain close contact with his people on issues to be discussed in the District assembly and collate their views, opinion and proposal. The Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, who was the special guest, urged the Assembly to stop the teenagers from roaming the streets at night, adding that, the girls among them are alleged to be engaging in prostitution.

He hoped the Assembly will team up with the Traditional Council to fight the emerging vices that is taking over the society. Mr Ben Attabrah, officer in charge of the Winneba District magistrates’ court swore the Presiding and Assembly Members into office. 1
